In Her Memory — Adrenal Crisis Awareness

For My Daughter 🌻

On January 17th, 2024, I lost my beautiful 24-year-old daughter to an adrenal crisis caused by Addison's Disease — a condition that was never properly diagnosed. She was radiant, loving, and full of life — a devoted mom to two precious baby boys who will grow up knowing how deeply she loved them.

She was only 24 years old. And a little more awareness might have saved her life.

What is Addison's Disease?

Addison's Disease is a rare but serious condition in which the adrenal glands do not produce enough of certain hormones — most critically, cortisol. Without cortisol, the body cannot manage stress, regulate blood pressure, or function properly.

Tragically, Addison's Disease is frequently misdiagnosed. Its symptoms — fatigue, weakness, low blood pressure, nausea, and mood changes — are often dismissed as anxiety, depression, or dehydration. This is exactly what happened to my daughter. Instead of receiving the diagnosis and treatment she needed, she was sent home. And we lost her.

Doctors need more awareness. Patients deserve better. No family should go through what ours did.

What is an Adrenal Crisis?

An adrenal crisis is a life-threatening emergency that can occur in people with Addison's Disease when their body is under stress and cannot produce enough cortisol to survive. It can come on suddenly and be fatal if not treated immediately.

Symptoms of an adrenal crisis include:

• Extreme weakness and fatigue
• Severe abdominal, back, or leg pain
• Vomiting and diarrhea
• Low blood pressure and loss of consciousness
• Confusion or loss of consciousness

People with Addison's Disease often carry emergency hydrocortisone injection kits — but if those around them don't know the signs, it can be too late.

I built this business in her honor. The oak tree represents her strength and deep roots in our family. The ember represents the flame she left in my heart — one that will never go out.
